Ik zag deze machine in 1974 in den bosch bij de firma Dodemont op het Burgemeester Loeffplein schuin tegenover het toenmalige politiebureau voor een prijs rond de fl 1250,-. Het kan ook fl 2500,- geweest zijn. Het ging me duizelen. Onbetaalbaar voor een middelbare scholier van 17 jaar oud. Ik speelde sinds mijn 14e in bandjes op saxofoon en wist dat je deze apparatuur nodig had om de muziek van een bandje op te nemen (op een bandje;-). Dit proces van het vastleggen van geluid trok toen al mijn belangstelling. Misschien net zoals het vastleggen van licht en beeld via fotografie me ook intrigeerde...
Begin jaren 90 kon ik met de Roland D-20 synthesizer meersporige digitale instrumentale muziek maken. Check hiervoor het La Roca project.
Opnames maken van analoge bronnen werd voor mij mogelijk rond 1998. Een Windows computer in combinatie met een losse geluidskaart die maar liefst 8 ingangssignalen tegelijkertijd kon opnemen, WOW! Dit was het startsein voor de Mudshark Studio Bokhoven. De naam is een combinatie van de modderige glibberige vruchtbare rivierklei van Bokhoven en het grandiose en gevarieerde werk van mijn idool Frank Zappa (The Mud Shark - Live At Fillmore East 1971). Er zouden bijzondere klanken worden gevangen in mijn studio, reken maar van YES!
Ik gebruikte deze apparatuur in eerste instantie voor mijn solo-project van The 00's: The Tralala's. Ook nam ik in die tijd muziek op van de band van Ton van de Bergh: Hey Joost! waarin ik toen zong en sax / keyboards speelde. Ik gebruikte daarvoor een Yamaha MD8 8 sporen minidisk recorder die ik mee kon nemen naar de oefenruimte in Uden en naar live concerten: The Mudshark Mobile...
Bevriende muzikanten vonden al snel de weg naar mijn studio gedurende The 00's. Diverse projecten werden live en in de studio geregistreerd: Gentle as a Dove en andere projecten met Marcel Bosch (gitarist Hey Joost!), Lafooma (de band van o.a. gitarist Peter die later ook met Foozack zou spelen). In mijn garagebox aan huis bleek een band te passen! Om het geluid bij de bron zo ongestoord mogelijk op te pikken zat drummer Ralph gescheiden van de band met koptelefoon op het zoldertje ;-0
Onze band Foozack nam in The 10's de eerste EP Paranoia Paradise op in de Mudshark Studio. Ook repeteerden we in de studio. Later begonnen gitarist Luuk en drummer Frans zelf Studio Cube. In eerste instantie in Vlijmen en nadat deze compleet in rook opging (brand bij de buren) in Rossum. We gingen toen daar oefenen en opnemen.
Gedurende The 20's werk ik vooral solo. Mijn home-studio verhuisde naar een klein kamertje in mijn huis. De garagebox wordt gebruikt als achteringang en om mijn motorfiets te stallen. Inderdaad:

Mudshark Studio Bokhoven
I saw this machine in Den bosch in 1974 at the company Dodemont on Burgemeester Loeffplein, diagonally across from the police station at the time, for a price around 1,250 guilders. It might have been 2,500 guilders. It made my head spin. Unaffordable for a 17-year-old high school student. I had been playing in bands on saxophone since I was 14 and knew that you needed this kind of equipment to record a band’s music (onto a tape, of course). The process of capturing sound already fascinated me back then. Maybe just like the way capturing light and images through photography also intrigued me...
In the early 90s, I was able to create multi-track digital instrumental music with the Roland D-20 synthesizer. Check out the La Roca project for this.
Recording from analog sources became possible for me around 1998. A Windows computer combined with a sound card that could record up to 8 input signals simultaneously—WOW! This was the starting signal for Mudshark Studio Bokhoven. The name is a combination of the muddy, slippery, fertile river clay of Bokhoven and the grand and varied work of my idol, Frank Zappa (The Mud Shark - Live At Fillmore East 1971). Extraordinary sounds were going to be captured in my studio—you bet!
I initially used this equipment for my solo project from the 2000s: The Tralala’s. Around that time, I also recorded music for Ton van de Bergh’s band, Hey Joost!, in which I sang and played saxophone/keyboards. For this, I used a Yamaha MD8 8-track minidisc recorder, which I could take to the rehearsal space in Uden and to live concerts: The Mudshark Mobile...
Fellow musicians quickly found their way to my studio during the 2000s. Various projects were recorded live and in the studio: Gentle as a Dove and other projects with Marcel Bosch (guitarist of Hey Joost!), Lafooma (the band of guitarist Peter, who later also played with Foozack). It turned out a band could fit in my garage box at home! To capture the sound at the source as undisturbed as possible, drummer Ralph was separated from the band, wearing headphones in the attic. ;-)
In the 2010s, our band Foozack recorded the first EP, Paranoia Paradise, at Mudshark Studio. We also rehearsed there. Later, guitarist Luuk and drummer Frans started their own Studio Cube, first in Vlijmen, and after it went up in smoke (a fire at the neighbors), in Rossum. We then started rehearsing and recording there.
During the 20s, I mainly work solo. My home studio moved to a small room in my house. The garage box is now used as a back entrance and to store my motorcycle. Indeed:
